A Sunday Smile
A few tunes from Beirut, a cartoon and a friendly hummer.

Busy working on not one but two films right now so just a little gift today. Our daughter turned us on to the semi-popular group Beirut (no they are not Lebanese and were formed in Santa Fe) even before they started opening for Arcade Fire and were doing kind of European gypsy music plus horns. Anyway, thought of them today because of this song in post-Valentine’s Day reverie and because everyone needs a “Sunday Smile” these days.
One of our other favorites from them quite awhile back “Postcards from Italy,” later covered by Florence + Machine.
And their best known back then, “Elephant Gun.”
My daughter’s husband is from Nantes and we visited them there several times, though have to laugh about Zach Condon’s pronunciation of it here as “Non-tez” apparently to rhyme with “voices.”

Sweet pic of “Friendly” ❣️
My son "introduced" me to Beirut back in 2006 when he was trying to get me to listen to Neutral Milk Hotel. Both recommendations stayed with me although I confess to not spending enough time with either over the last few years. Your post has thankfully remedied this oversight. So I am thankful. Quite thankful.
