Didn’t plan to post today but felt inspired to post these audience videos (sound is okay) from two big benefits last night: for Autism Speaks in L.A. at the Greek, with a Neil Young/Steve Stills reunion, and in New Jersey at the new Springsteen Archives honoring Tom Morello, Emmylou Harris, Smokey Robinson, Joe Ely (who was ill and absent) , John Fogarty, and Jackson Browne. So here we go, with a few cartoons etc. down below. Sorry, no videos out there of Emmylou singing “Red Dirt Girl” with Patti S.
Perfect for our times, Fogarty (who still has it) with Bruce, “Bad Moon Rising.”
Jackson with Bruce on “Take It Easy.”
Bruce sings one of Joe Ely’s greats, “All Just to Get To You.”
The incomparable Smokey Robinson—who is stil very active and touring—with Steve Van Zandt on “Tears of a Clown.”
More Fogarty and Bruce, “Fortunate Son.”
And, out in L.A., Young and Stills in an old-fashioned guitar duel (almost 60 years after they got together) on “Rockin’ in the Free World,” which now opens with Neil’s new chant, “Take America Back.”
And just for fun, also in L.A., Billy Idol (who has a new album and will tour with Joan Jett), “Rebel Yell.” I have to say, I enjoyed much more a piece in The New Yorker last week about Billy returning to his old 1980s neighborhood—which was also ours that entire decade: the West Village near Bleecker and 7th Avenue. Even recounts a meeting with Lou Reed at our old haunt, John’s Pizza!
New poll today at The Washington Post:
Cartoons Sunday
h/t B. Bedway
Hot Damn, John Fogarty and The Boss with a rather relevant song
Bad Moon Rising
You Rule, Greg
Good music by the old guys who can still rock.
Fleetwood Mac during the Peter Green era. I was into Zep's first album at the time, and liked a few later releases.
