Cartoons Friday!
Plus music by John Fogerty, Sleater-Kinney, Wilco and Waxahatchee--and when Ali G interviewed Trump.
Greg Mitchell is the author of more than a dozen books and now writer/director of three award-winning films aired via PBS, including “Atomic Cover-up” and “Memorial Day Massacre.” Now watch trailer for acclaimed 2025 film “The Atomic Bowl” coming to PBS in July. Before all that, he was a longtime editor of the legendary Crawdaddy. You can still subscribe to this newsletter for FREE. Sustain this newsletter by ordering one of his books.
Okay, keeping it simple here as weekend begins. First, John Fogerty, perhaps as an 80th birthday present to himself, has re-recorded (in a Swift move) his great Creedence tunes, this time with his two sons backing him up. This may also be a way to fully re-claim the rights to the songs, as he endured years or decades of legal battles over this. Here is one of the first released, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”
Sleater-Kinney helped close John Mulaney’s season Netflix on Wednesday night with a riotous Kim Wilde cover, “Kids in America.” Yes, that’s Fred on drums. Carrie on!
Next, as you may be sick of hearing, “California Stars” (lyrics by Woody Guthrie) is one of my favorite songs, and I have another excuse to post it here, as Wilco two weeks ago did it with fast rising Waxahatchee.

On the Campaign Trail, Elon Musk Juggled Drugs and Family Drama
As Mr. Musk entered President Trump’s orbit, his private life grew increasingly tumultuous and his drug use was more intense than previously known.

Ha, I forgot Ali G (aka Sacha Baron Cohen) in his heyday got pre-President Trump to sit down with him for a bit, below. On the other hand, also chatted with “Norman” Chomsky.

We've seen the rain, time to find the drain...
Ah CCR lives anew. Time to freshen my playlist. Thank you!
