Greg Mitchell has authored more than a dozen books (see most of them here) and directed four recent PBS films. Subscribing to this newsletter is still FREE—so if you want to help fund, maybe purchase one of my books, thanks!
It’s a Wrap: Perhaps you saw the headline yesterday about the notorious attack on a federal agent:
Jurors Find Sandwich Hurler Not Guilty of Assault
Colbert devoted a full segment to it last night, calling it a CSI: “Criminal Sandwich Investigation.”
Meanwhile, Trump appeared to be dreaming about a Cuban sandwich:
Jenna Amatulli of The Guardian noted that “[t]he bizarre series of posts could raise further questions on Trump’s mental acuity.” More questions arose yesterday after Trump spoke before the America Business Forum saying: “For generations Miami has been a haven for those fleeing communist tyranny in South Africa. I mean, if you take a look at what’s going on in parts of South Africa. Look at South Africa, what’s going on. Look at South America, what’s going on. You know, I’m not going there. We have a G20 meeting in South Africa.”
And he still thinks SNAP recipients receive their food benefits in the form of cash to be spent on trivial things: “It wasn’t meant for people that could do whatever they want. The people that say, ‘Well, I don’t think I’ll work. I’ll just collect this money.’”
While this is happening: Elon Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire with his new pay package from Tesla if he meets ambitious goals, including vastly expanding the company’s stock valuation.
Patti Smith, who I first met back in 1975—before the release of “Horses” 50 years ago this weekend—has a new memoir, which she talked about on Colbert then last night:
Then she sang “Peaceable Kingdom”:
As we have noted, Warren “Enjoy Every Sandwich” Zevon finally gets inducted (by Letterman) into the Rock hall of fame tomorrow night, so here is original piano demo for his oft-covered “Mohammed’s Radio.”

Peaceable Kingdom is more relevant today than ever, and it’s even more powerful done this way - with just vocals and piano. Great job Patti and Tony!
Thanks for the Patti Smith. Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine…
