Greg Mitchell is the author of more than a dozen books (see link) and now writer/director of three award-winning films aired via PBS, including “Atomic Cover-up” and “Memorial Day Massacre” which are still up at PBS.org. Before all that, he was a longtime editor of the legendary Crawdaddy. You can still subscribe to this newsletter for free.
This week’s political cartoon picks below, but first, in response to Gov. Kristi Noem’s “We Shoot Puppies, Don’t We?” scandal, a few songs.
First, some new attention in past few days to Mitt Romney putting his dog on the roof of his car for a long family trip, which my man Ry Cooder covered in his “Mutt Romney Blues.” Woof woof on the roof roof!
For a ton of laughs, here are Bob Dylan and The Band in the hallowed basement with a song not released for several decades, “(Every Time I Go to Town) The Boys Keep Kicking My Dog Around.”
And a very alternate version of Dylan’s “If Dogs Run Free” from 1970.
Even Big Mama Thornton did not shoot her “Hound Dog,” here in epic version that inspired Elvis and Elvis mania.
Greg, "Kickin' My Dog Around" with Bob and the Band is so hilarious and an accurate reply to the bad-choice governor. Thanks for finding and including the clip.
