Cartoons Saturday!
Plus new music from Brandi Carlile and Rhett Miller, a Natalie Merchant classic, and preview of Marc Maron doc.
My latest film, “The Atomic Bowl:Football at Ground Zero—and Nuclear Peril Today” has been airing over PBS stations this past month and streaming (key links to watch and more here). A companion book, my 14th, has been available, and you can read more or order here. Thank you. And subscribing to this newsletter still somehow FREE.
Still absorbing death of friend, mentor and co-author Robert Jay Lifton—see yesterday’s post—so no commentary today, just some swell music and cartoons. But Jesus, RFK Jr., the Dept of War, Seal Team massacre of North Korean civilians….and more…
First look at the upcoming doc about Marc Maron:
First cut from new Brandi Carlile. She’s changing direction with this album, producing herself and standing more on her own, hence title of this one “Returning to Myself.”
Had the good fortune to catch Natalie Merchant again in the parlor at the Mohonk Mountain House on Wednesday, where she performed her classic “Motherland” with longtime acoustic guitarist Erik, just like here:
The next day, Rhett Miller of the Old 97’s played solo in the same spot. He told me he had upcoming album and had just learned that his band was to get a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Americana fest at the Ryman in Nashville. Here is a fine cut just out from that new album:

Brandi Carlile is terrific. Toons are getting sharper aren’t they?
Just love the music today as well as the great great comics.
