My award-winning film “The Atomic Bowl” started streaming on PBS.org and PBS apps last month and via Vimeo (you can easily watch it via links here), plus it is airing over many PBS stations. You can still subscribe to this newsletter for FREE. And there is now a companion e-book for “The Atomic Bowl” with the same title, read more here or order. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Stephen “Pee Wee German” Miller on protests over the federal poliicing takeover in D.C. this week: “Most citizens in Washington D.C. are Black. This is not a city that has had any safety for its Black citizens for generations, and President Trump is the one who is fixing that. So we’re going to ignore these stupid white hippies. They all need to go home and take a nap because they’re all over 90 years old.”
There’s yet another album, “Joni’s Jazz,” coming next month in the Joni Mitchell “archives” series, this time focusing on songs across her career and re-masters of some of her best songs in her (loosely defined) jazzy styling. She dropped one gorgeous cut yesterday that is quite unusual and remarkable. She wrote music for a song eventually called “Two Grey Rooms” in 1982, and recorded an instrumental track for it, with Joni singing non-words over it. She had trouble furnishing lyrics for it for many years, until it was ultimately released as “Two Grey Rooms.” So here is that early demo track—no poetry needed!
Meanwhile, Jon Batiste released another cut from his upcoming “Big Money,” a moving ballad tribute, presumably to his wife.
And to mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the “Born to Run” album, the Springsteen folks have formally released as re-mastered version of one of the cuts from that album ultimately (wisely) cut, “Lonely Night in the Park.”
