Quick Note: As you may know, my latest film, “The Atomic Bowl” has been airing over PBS stations this past month and streaming via PBS (key links and more here). A companion e-book has been available but today it is also published as a paperback, and you can read more or order here. Thank you.
Well, I think we have to start with this (fake) headline:
Belinda Carlisle Officially Retracts 1987 Claim That Heaven Is a Place on Earth
Lot of reasons for this and sometimes I simply have to leave that to cartoons below, which you seem to prefer to text and links anyway. But here is Paul Krugman this morning:
Yesterday Donald Trump said that he had fired Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. My wording is advisable: He “said” that he had fired her. I’m not a lawyer, but it seems clear that he does not have the right to summarily fire Fed officials, certainly on tissue-thin allegations of mortgage fraud before she even went to the Fed.
Cook has said that she will not resign. So at this point the immediate onus is on Jerome Powell, the Fed chairman. He has the right — I would say the obligation — to say, “Show me the legal basis for this action.” If Trump’s officials can’t provide that basis, he should declare that as far as he is concerned, Cook is still a Fed governor.
If Powell caves, or the Supreme Court acts supine again and validates Trump’s illegal declaration, the implications will be profound and disastrous. The United States will be well on its way to becoming Turkey, where an authoritarian ruler imposed his crackpot economics on the central bank, sending inflation soaring to 80 percent.
Then there’s photographer Valerie Zink resigning from Reuters and tearing up her press card, and explaining: "I can’t in good conscience continue to work for Reuters given their betrayal of journalists in Gaza and culpability in the assassination of 245 our colleagues.” She added: “By repeating Israel’s genocidal fabrications without determining if they have any credibility – willfully abandoning the most basic responsibility of journalism – Western media outlets have made possible the killing of more journalists in two years on one tiny strip of land than in WWI, WWII, and the wars in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, and Ukraine combined, to say nothing of starving an entire population, shredding its children, and burning people alive.”
Well, at least we are enjoying the new doc about The Zombie so far, here is trailer:
Music Pick
From the new Woody Guthrie taping-at-home album (which I have touted here previously), “I’m a Child Ta Fight.
I'm A Child Ta Fight,
I'm A Child Ta Fight,
Look out you fascists, here I come,
I'm A Child Ta Fight.

I really enjoyed the Woody Guthrie song today. I bet he never dreamed that we would have a fascist as the POTUS, and that we all need to stand up and fight fascism right here in America.
Looking forward to watching the Zombies film. Enjoyed hearing Woody Guthrie.
Powerful selection of cartoons.
