Many of you may know that longtime NYC-based rocker/songwriter Jesse Malin suffered a rare spinal stroke a couple of years ago and has been working his way back very slowly but steadily. Sprngsteen and others contributed to a tribute album to raise funds. Then he was featured in a surprising CBS segment a few weeks ago and this week his friends staged a two-night benefit at the Beacon in New York. Among those appearing were Elvis Costello, Stevie Van Zandt (Jesse hosted on his Underground Garage), Jakob Dylan, Adam Duritz, Lucinda Williams (she produced one of his more recent albums and they have bonded over their strokes), plus Malin was able to site or stand at the mic and sing a few tunes himself.
A few selections follow.
Elvis and Lucinda cover “Wild Horses.”
Jesse covers the Pogues’ “If I Fall from Grace”
Jesse sings “Meet Me at the End of the World”
Here is that CBS segment:
Springsteen from that tribute album:
Jesse Malin is awesome. He should be much more well known than he is. He has some great songs. Bruce knows. I hope he can fully recover.
Great compilation - I look forward to your comics!
