Friends, asking for a bit of help here. While I appreciate the continuing strong interest from all of you (FREE) subscribers, it’s harder and harder to reach new readers, thanks to politically-inspired partial suppression of my feeds at Twitter and Facebook—the new reality for many. But you might help attract more readers here if you’d take the trouble to “share” below, or “re-stack,” or post a link on your other outlets, or recommend to a friend in a good old fashioned email. Thanks again for your support!
Day after a holiday, so forgive the grab bag.
The satirists did not take the day off as Summer Silly Season begins. Here’s Trump giving the first tour of his new Qater and Run jetliner.
Then we have a Schoolhouse Rock parody but instead of another “how a bill is made” we meet Mr. Executive Order.
Not a parody, actual Trump word salad yesterday, as captured by Steve Brodner:
Bruce Springsteen took to social media yesterday to comment on the passing of his old key friend and supporter, who I knew only as “Tinker.” When I met Bruce in 1972, Tinker was helping him transport and set up his crummy sound system at shows, including the legendary one up in Sing Sing which was, needless to say, a real challenge (see my report here). But we heard from Tinker many stories from his past with Bruce, including the latter crashing at his surf board store/factory from time to time. That and much more is in Bruce’s lengthy and rather touching obit, read it all here.
Some music. You probably don’t feel you need another version of “Let It Be,” but here is a fine one from this weekend, from a show we were tempted to attend—a benefit for migrant relief up in Kingston, NY, starring Natalie Merchant, Sara Bareilles and Rachel Yamagata. Video a little shaky but audio is fine:
Willie Nelson and family and friends at the Hollywood Bowl, with “Everything Is Bullshit,” don’t miss.
From Tunes to Toons
Ouch. very sharp truths today in toons and the music was interesting.
Great selection of cartoons.
