Cartoons Wednesday!
Plus updates on Larry David vs. Bill Maher, I'm With Her, and '60 Minutes.'
Greg Mitchell is the author of more than a dozen books and now writer/director of three award-winning films aired via PBS, including “Atomic Cover-up” and “Memorial Day Massacre.” Now watch trailer for acclaimed 2025 film “The Atomic Bowl.” Before all that, he was a longtime editor of the legendary Crawdaddy. Couple of updates from yesterday’s post. We excerpted from Larry David’s mockery of Bill Maher in a NY Times opinion piece—he parodied Bill’s gushing about Trump after their recent buddyfest at the White House. Larry imagined his own meeting with another authoritarian weak in social skills—Hitler in 1939, praising Adolf without curbing his enthusiasm. Pretty pretty good.
So naturally, in a rare step, the Times felt the need to carry a separate opinion piece by Patrick Healey, assuring readers and the President: “Larry’s piece is not equating Trump with Hitler.”
Jesse Duquette:
Also yesterday we hailed the reunion of the I’m With Her group of three talented women and published a swell cut from their upcoming album. Turns out old friend Tony Scherman had been preparing a full piece on them and posted it at his own musical Substack last night (feel free to subscribe). Another song from them here, a Grammy winner a few years back, “Call My Name.”
And more on this tomorrow: Our favorite NY Times book critic Dwight Garner just online with an appreciation of the 1975 flop debut album by Maggie and Terre Roche, which caused them to quit music making—until forming with sister Suzy the more successful Roches in 1979.
Finally, we should all be troubled by this:
‘60 Minutes’ executive producer leaves program over journalistic independence
Bill Owens says in staff memo ‘it has become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it’
And this morning the Times covers this anti-free speech phenomenon when it happens to three right-wingers—long after it became common for lefties:
They Criticized Musk on X. Then Their Reach Collapsed.
Steve Brodner on the Kristi Noem purse snatching over the weekend:
Argh, moving a little too quickly this morning, some of you received post with group name as I'm Not Here instead of I'm With Her. Even though I posted video right below with correct name--and video and story yesterday. Jeez.
