Since, with the latest economic news, you surely all need a laugh, let’s start with Somethin’ Stupid, as Frank once advised. Somehow I missed that yesterday was the 25th anniversary of a landmark in Western Civilization: the airing of SNL’s “More Cowbell” sketch. I understand they planned to do it a week earlier but it did not work with Norm Macdonald as the producer—but with Christopher Walken around.…they got the fever for cowbell…
Now, perhaps to balance that, the brand new single from Arcade Fire, “Year of the Snake,” from their upcoming album. Even if you’re not crazy about the tune, you got to love the New Orleans setting, as we do…..
The L.A. Dodgers got a lot of heat yesterday visiting the White House and posing with Trump, as 2024 World Series winners, even though it made many of the black and Hispanic players look, well, a little uncomfortable. But ONE Dodger not only stayed home but posted this image and message on social media. So I doff my Mets caps to reliever Brusdar Graterol. two-time World Series champ with terrific lifetime ERA of 2.78.
Then there’s this quote on the House floor yesterday by Rep. Jamie Raskin: “The basis for this most imbecilic and destructive trade war in the history of the world is the profound economic research and policy writings of one Ron Vera, a completely fictional economist conjured up by Trump advisor Peter Navarro, a real person who Elon Musk just called ‘a moron’ and ‘dumb as a sack of bricks.”
I agree with David Axelrod here. “Prediction: Trump, in way over his skis and staring down the barrel of economic disaster, will quickly strike a series of mostly unremarkable, bilateral trade deals and declare them the greatest of all time.”
Last night’s Colbert monologue:
Kudos to Brusdar Graterol ("in my brown house"); not so much for the rest of the week-kneed Dodgers.
What’s not to love! I’m cartooned right out of my mind!
