Good post - I'm looking forward to your documentary release.
A lot of my work has involved interpreting signals and pattern matching. It isn't focused on music, but I find myself automatically noting influences and similarities in styles from one piece to another. Sometimes, it's hard for me to identify what those similarities are.
Recent examples in music videos you posted included hearing the Moody Blues in "Disappearing" (keyword in title, anyway), and Tom Petty's influence in some of the songs on Noah Kahan's latest album. Harder to pinpoint were the similarities between The Wallflowers' "One Headlight" and The Waterboys' "Don't Even Have to Say His Name". Could be that they're both American heartland-type music.
Have you written anything about core influences in Guthrie, Dylan, Springsteen, and other musicians? I know some early blues were inspired by gospel or classical arrangements. I'd be interested in reading anything you've written tying these genres together.
trump caught in a Mexican finger trap. I haven’t laughed as much since the last time he got tripped up by a common puzzle. Oh, wasn’t that just a couple of days ago, guess it hasn’t been that long. Time flies when we are winning all the time.
