Trailer for my new film, “The Atomic Bowl: Football at Ground Zero & The Forgotten Bomb” just posted….
Hope you have a happy holiday weekend. I posted some “Thankgiving-related” material the other day so will pass on that gravy today. Instead some of the usual political cartoons you (seem to ) love, plus a few song tracks first.
As many of you know, I am a huge fan of Ry Cooder, for most of his work from the late 1960s to very recently (even beyond the gee-tar stylings), including his political leanings, late-blooming songwriting, and classic concept album “Chavez Ravine.” His son Joachim has been with him much of the way since the “Buena Vista Social Club” days and I have hailed his recent song “Everyone Sleeps in the Light” as one of the best of recent vintage. Now he has a new album, which has only seven cuts and is only out now as a download, but I recommend it highly for at least six of the seven songs. Ry is very background but contributes banjo and guitar and Joachim’s wife, amazing singer Juliette Commagere, adds key vocalizing. Enjoy these five cuts, then the cartoons, and yes, you can still subscribe for free—for which I’d give thanks.
"Sight and the Sound" — a perfect song
"Sea Level Man" fun, more uptempo
"Dreamer's Motel," dreamy title track
"Down in the Blood" very Ry-ish, even Capt. Beefheart, bluesy yet ear-wormy riff
"Godspeed Little Children of Ft. Adams, Arkansas," title says it all
Cartooning

Always loved Ry. Joachim sounds like he’s dyed in the wool!
