as I once noted here, on 25th anniversary of plane crash, I boldly called Buddy's mom in Texas--still in the phone book! If you knew to ask about a Holley family. Very nice but didn't keep her more than 5 minutes....that night after a Buddy party we walked to his old apt building on lower 5th Ave and played a few tunes, led by future Mother Jones writer and author David Corn.
I grew up and lived across a vacant lot from Norman Petty's studio in Clovis, NM. I was there when he recorded there, as well as some other well known people. If I'd actually known that, I might have walked to Leslie Candy Company more often to see if I might see some famous singers. At the risk of sounding like Sarah Palin, I could see the studio from my house. It was directly across that lot and then across 7th St near Thomas. I'd had to walk right by it to get to the candy shop. I never knew until I'd moved away and gone to college. That's where I was when I first found out. The place always looked deserted so I thought it was closed.
Great posting. But what is he going to do to the Kennedy center? The construction companies destroying DC must be known and ostracized. They know what they are doing is WRONG.
Can't tell you enough how your Substack brings me daily pleasure. Makes me even prouder that the first national magazine to publsh a review and feature by me was Crawdaddy during your watch.
Re: Dylan & Buddy Holly… Dylan is a great believer in PRINT THE LEGEND, especially when it comes to Dylan.
Ironic that Strom tried to flick away the ashes of history as our new leader does today.
Great music. Love Buddy Holly. Some very good cartoons.

Most Excellent column today, Greg
Loved Buddy Holly and the Crickets, It's so Easy, Maybe Baby, Not Fade Away, and every other song
I was living in DM when the plane came down in Clear lake, Iowa, I was shocked and
somehow felt guilty that it happened in Iowa
Richie Valens Come on, Let's Go is still is one of my favorite songs along with La Bamba
And, of course, The Stones version of Not Fade Away on their first album which took the
Word by storm, and I still play it all the time
Thank you for a pleasant stroll down memory lane
Great line-up of Buddy Holly tunes! Thanks Greg...
also, for your other Substack...Administration reducing regulations for nuclear plants?!?!?!?
Ditto, Kathleen. The music brings me back every day and this is my only political subscription. Thank you Greg for your clear eyed reporting.
