If DOGE Runs Free, Plus a New Brandi & Elton Single
And a Top 10 film pick just now streaming.
Greg Mitchell is the author of more than a dozen books (see link) and now writer/director of three award-winning films aired via PBS, including “Atomic Cover-up” and “Memorial Day Massacre” which are still up at PBS.org. Watch trailer for my acclaimed 2025 film “The Atomic Bowl.” Before all that, he was a longtime editor of the legendary Crawdaddy. At Blue Sky and Twitter: both as @gregmitch. Okay a mix of things today, before we get to the usual cartoons for the Trump era with a scent of Musk.
First, we have noted that a Brandi Carlile album with her main hero/influence Elton John, is coming this spring. The first cut was released yesterday with classic Elton piano stylings and mainly Brandi vocal. Can’t say it’s as great as Brandi’s own “Madman Across the Water” (also below) but we’ll see how the entire album works out.
“Madman” live
Next, we did not get to the much acclaimed “September 5” movie (now up for an Oscar) in the theaters but it just dropped on Amazon Prime this week and we watched right away. Unlike so many movies in past year, especially American, which proved largely disappointing, this was one flick that exceeded expectations, with an up-close (and by the end a morally and ethically complex) look at the famous ABC broadcast coverage of the 1972 Munich hostage tragedy. Loved the German actress from the great “Teacher’s Lounge” in a key role. Here is the trailer:

Trump this morning, if you have missed it:
You ought to get an award for the phrase "If DOGE runs free." Well done.
