My latest film, “The Atomic Bowl: Football at Ground Zero—and Nuclear Peril Today” has been airing over PBS stations this past month and streaming for free (key links to watch now and more here). A companion book is now available, and you can read more or order here. Thank you. And subscribing to this newsletter is still somehow FREE.
So while we see numerous people fired or threatened relating to alleged comments re: Charlie Kirk, including Matt Dowd at NBC, there’s been no reaction at Fox following Fox and Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade endorsing on the air euthanizing homeless people who won’t accept treatment: "Involuntary lethal injection, or something. Just kill them."
Meanwhile, little media and public attention continues to rule (although I raised it two days ago) in the case of the kid, 16, who shot up Evergreen school in Colorado on same day Kirk was killed. Wonder why?
DENVER (AP) — A teenager suspected in a shooting attack at a suburban Denver high school that left two students in critical condition appeared fascinated with previous mass shootings including Columbine and expressed neo-Nazi views online, according to experts.
Since December, Desmond Holly, 16, had been active on an online forum where users watch videos of killings and violence, mixed in with content on white supremacism and antisemitism, the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism said in a report.
In happier news, we have a “new” John Prine album out this week, a deluxe edition of his “Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings” albums with demos and outtakes. Here’s an acoustic demo of one of his best known tunes, “Lake Marie.”
And a song not released previously:
You readers and viewers, of a certain age, seem to like these rapid fire song compilations, so here’s another spanning the year before the Beatles and other Brits arrived on our shores (although they’d already had hits in UK): 63 hits from 1963.

I swear I miss John Prine every day. Thank you for this.
The hits of 1963 certainly bring back some wonderful memories, and I needed that bit of uplifting today! It has been a hard week for me, but only because I am so tired of listening to the Rs moan, groan, and blame the rest of us when one of their own, who advocated for unlimited gun ownership, is shot dead. Where is anything but "thoughts and prayers" when children and teachers and so many innocent others are gunned down? They are all hypocrites!
