Joni Mitchell, who has barely sung a few lines for a public audience in years after serious health setbacks, sang and played for over 45 minutes at the Newport Folk Festival on Sunday—and we’ve collected about 90% of it in separate clips below. She is aided chiefly by new prime supporter Brandi Carlile but also Allison Russell, Marcus Mumford, Wynonna and less familiar faces. At first it seemed she would merely sit on the (apt) throne and occasionally join in the fun but soon she stood for a lengthy guitar solo and more, moving from strong, baritone, vocals on covers of classics such as “Summertime” to her own “Clouds,” “A Case of You,” and “Big Yellow Taxi” (full report on her set here). Enjoy, then subscribe, it’s still free. Update: Watch interview with her at Newport below….
”A Case of You”

“Love Potion #9”

…and another group effort on perhaps her greatest song, “Amelia.”
Closing with “Circle Game”
A voice reverberates and teaches us not to give up. The lines are open.
