Sorry, have not posted here for awhile, due to finishing my third film in the past two years (watch trailer for second film here or below). But inspired to post a few videos below from this weekend’s major Grammy-related “MusiCares” tribute to their person-of-the-year Joni Mitchell. Brandi Carlile and Jon Batiste (who is up for 11 Grammys tonight) arranged the concert and guests included Beck, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Allison Russell, and on and on. Joni also gets to present an award during the Grammy broadcast tonight. Here is a full story, and enjoy videos below. Then subscribe, it’s still free.
UPDATE Joni just won Grammy tonight for Best Historical Album package. Here she gives her acceptance speech.
Amazingly, they coaxed Joni on stage earlier this weekend for her first post-aneurysm “performance,” as she joined in on her “Big Yellow Taxi,” including signature ending.
Here’s some red carpet fun.
Snippets from performances by John Legend, Brandi, Steve Stills etc.
And just for the hell of it, here is the “Both Sides Now” scene from Oscar “Best Picture” winner Coda.
And, as promised, trailer for my new film which will premiere at two festivals later this month.
“Incisive and enjoyable every day.” — Ron Brownstein, The Atlantic
“Always worth reading.” — Frank Rich, New York magazine, Veep and Succession
Greg Mitchell is the author of a dozen books, including the bestseller The Tunnels (on escapes under the Berlin Wall), the current The Beginning or the End (on MGM’s wild atomic bomb movie), and The Campaign of the Century (on Upton Sinclair’s left-wing race for governor of California), which was recently picked by the Wall St. Journal as one of five greatest books ever about an election. His new film, Atomic Cover-up, just had its world premiere and is drawing extraordinary acclaim. For nearly all of the 1970s he was the #2 editor at the legendary Crawdaddy. Later he served as longtime editor of Editor & Publisher magazine. He recently co-produced a film about Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Wish she hadn't liked her smokes so much. But she did.
