Greg Mitchell’s new award-winning film, with a focus on nuclear dangers today, will start streaming via PBS, and screening, on PBS stations, on July 12. Last week the companion e-book with the same title was published: “The Atomic Bowl: Football at Ground Zero—and Nuclear Peril Today.” It includes previously unpublished images and provocative material from the film and much more. Read more here. Thanks.
Continue to be busy with upcoming PBS film (see above) so will jump around a bit today.
First off, happy birthday to Arlo Guthrie, number 78 fot the lad. Woody wrote on this day to friend Alan Lomax: “Marjorie gave birth this morning at 10:10, July the Tenth, to a big seven pound baby boy over in the third ward of the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital.” Just because you haven’t seen it in a long time, here is his famous Woodstock moment.
Speaking of birthdays, they marked Ringo’s 85th a couple of days ago in L.A. with a smallish gathering which ended with him on stage accepting a honorary something or other. It was basically T Bone Burnett’s band plus Jackson Browne, Molly Tuttle, Joe Walsh, and below Sam Phillips takes a crack at Ringo’s “Photograph.” Not the strongest vocal but one of the great “Beatles” songs after the breakup (thank you, George).
There’s a new doc about Jack Kerouac and “On the Road” coming up and happy to see Natalie Merchant has written a new song for it. Trailer:
