The big music news of the day is that Springsteen is about to release his second massive collection of unreleased material, following his “Tracks I” of 1998 with “Tracks 2.” He and his people started teasing it a couple of days ago, with vague details slowly leaking late yesterday (e.g. seven albums/CDs). The big hope had been a full album of electric tracks for “Nebraska” that were shelved when he decided to go the simple acoustic demo route, but that’s not happening for now.
They promise more news tonight. But we now know there are 83 tracks (74 previously unreleased) and the full release will come on June 27. More details just out. One of the albums seems to focus on the fabled “Garage Band” sessions in L.A. when Bruce was still working on “Born in the USA.” A lengthy rough of that has been bootlegged and online for some time.

He dropped a “trailer” for the album this morning at 9 a.m. ET where he talks about it:

The package:
This all comes on the heels of news of the death last Friday of Springsteen’s boyhood baseball pal Joe DePugh—who could “throw that speedball by you” and thus inspired the song “Glory Days” (one of Bruce’s most popular singles, though far from greatest). This was notable enough to inspire a New York Times obit last night. The song, below, in a somewhat quieter and more recent live setting, and note that here he substitutes “spitball” for “speedball”:
There’s a new Elton John/Brandi Carlile lp coming out in a few days and they decided to tease it with this one-minute snatch of, good golly, “Little Richard’s Bible.”
Paul Krugman’s Substack kind of says it all:

“Liberation Day” is even worse than expected
