Greg Mitchell’s new award-winning film, with a focus on nuclear dangers today, will start streaming via PBS, and screening, on PBS stations, on July 12. Last week the companion e-book with the same title was published: “The Atomic Bowl: Football at Ground Zero—and Nuclear Peril Today.” It includes previously unpublished images and provocative material from the film and much more. Read more here. Thanks.
Here now, the news: The Daily Show last night mocked the current uproar over…..yes, that Sydney Sweeney jeans (genes?) ad….
Colbert monologue:
Honored to get support: PBS just posted major article on 80th anniversary of atomic bombings and films about it, and two of first three highlighted are ones I directed (and can be watched there streaming right now): "Atomic Cover-up" and brand new "The Atomic Bowl."
The new film is also being aired by more than 100 stations around the country starting this weekend and over the next week. To see the full list, go here.
Also, you might want to check out my “other” Substack for a report on an important new Pew poll which suggests declining support for the use of the two atomic weapons against Japan, with interesting gender and age breakdowns.
Just released, Jon Batiste with Randy Newman on one of Ray Charles’ greats, “Lonely Avneue,” from Jon’s forthcoming album.
We’ve touted Larkin Poe, and now there’s this, newly posted:
Below, apparently our new National Anthem. Proud that I started promoting it several months ago and again many times recently, maybe that helped it along a bit. Here, Margo Price at Newport last weekend with Woody’s “Deportees.”
