Early Bob: Forever Young

The new Dylan official “bootleg” package, “Through an Open Window,” on his pre-electric years (from teenage years to 1963), which I’ve previewed previously, is arriving tomorrow, but they have only posted a couple of buried cuts so far. Here is the latest MoJo update and complete song list for the eight (count ‘em) CD version. There’s also a 2-CD and, of course, vinyl.
So as a public service, for those who can’t wait or can’t afford it, here are a few of the songs as they will appear on the new collection. It should come as no surprise that many have appeared on unofficial bootlegs for years or decades so that’s what I’m drawing on below. Enjoy.
Great protest tune, “The Death of Emmett Till,” 1962, like the other cuts, never on an official release back then.
A year before that, “Baby Let Me Follow You Down,” taped in Minnesota, unreleased but later a staple of live shows, including “The Last Waltz.”
As I’ve written in past, Bob’s “Mixed Up Confusion” was actually his first “rock” song, in 1962, three years before Newport. It was released only as a single, stiffed, and left off “Freewheelin.” When he released it decades later it was a guitar heavy take but here is the alternate piano-based version you will hear in the new box set.
“Fixin to Die,” live 1961 at the Folklore Center in NYC (photos are from later).
Going every further back, to 1960, his only version of Woody’s “Jesus Christ,” before he met Woody.
Stellar version of the classic “See That My Grave Is Kept Clean,” live at Gerdes Folk CIty, 1962 (he is IDed as “Elston Gunn” by uploader to avoid trouble).
One of my favorite unreleased Dylan tunes (for decades), “Percy’s Song,” here at Carnegie Hall, 1963. Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention did a fantastic cover.

Why they are refusing to release Trump’s MRI:
Photo Finish
My new feature, from my camera to you, let me know what you think. Today: “After the Storm, Provincetown, Cape Cod.”

Seems you could have had a career as a photographer. Very painterly compositions, and I love how you handle light.
Trump's MRI is spot-on! And your photo of the day again looks more like an excellent, realistic painting. It is indeed beautiful, and the composition is perfect!
