Greg Mitchell is the author of more than a dozen books (see link) and now writer/director of three award-winning films aired via PBS, including “Atomic Cover-up” and “Memorial Day Massacre” which are still up at PBS.org. Watch trailer for my acclaimed 2025 film “The Atomic Bowl.” Before all that, he was a longtime editor of the legendary Crawdaddy. At Blue Sky and Twitter: both as @gregmitch. You can still subscribe to this newsletter for FREE.
Okay, some scattered items to start, the usual cartoons down below.
Noticed last night that what I consider one of Dylan’s greatest songs, and performances, is back online in full form, at least briefly—it usually gets taken down in a day or two so catch it while you can. It’s “Chimes of Freedom,” at Newport a year before going electric, and even before it appeared on his last fully acoustic album. He’s high as a kite, starts out goofy, and then somehow gets it together, while simply strumming at one point to recall the lyrics—among the strongest and most poetic ever to appear in a century of song.
Next, news that a Neil Young tribute album is coming in April, “Heart of Gold,” that will feature tracks covered by Eddie Vedder (“Needle and the Damage Done”), Fiona Apple (“Heart of Gold”), Mumford & Sons, Rodney Crowell (“Mr. Soul”), Steve Earle, Brandi Carlile (“Philadelphia”), and many more, in two volumes with proceeds going to The Bridge School.
Here’s the first cut released, by Courtney Barnett, “Lotta Love.”
From a few years back, Norah Jones with “Barstool Blues,” from one Neil’s greatest albums, “Zuma.”
Just because we’re here with Courtney Barnett, I will re-post a great Gillian Welch song she did during Covid lockdown, with Phoebe Bridgers.
Finally, one more time for the trailer for my new film—forget today’s Super Bowl, this is still the most incredible bowl game ever, on a killing field in Nagasaki in 1946.
Super Boo Sunday

Keep them coming. Love “contains nuts.”
You have to be pretty naive to believe USAID is actually a aid organization. I appreciate 90% of the cartoons but you always have a bad apple in the bunch.
