Just a quick word, not a full post, to offer my appreciation to all who subscribed today, almost sight unseen. At least half of you signed up after my introductory post this morning, a mix of preview and bio, so I will provide link here if you wish to catch up. And I want to make sure you have a chance to see/hear the first day’s music pick via that link (at bottom of that page), with Rhiannon Giddens and crew doing Woody Guthrie’s immortal, “All You Fascists Bound to Lose." And now, below, here’s a bonus song selection tonight: Leonard Cohen (a true poet) reciting his song “Democracy (Is Coming to the USA)” which seems apt for this moment. “Sail on, sail on / Oh mighty ship of state…through the squalls of hate.” Most of the tunes in the future will not be so political, but it’s hard to look elsewhere this week.
Okay, now I’m off to finish watching the documentary too hot for most of the streaming services to handle—The Dissident, on Saudi Arabia’s butchering of Khashoggi. And then, in contrast, maybe the end of the college football title game, since my wife is an original Buckeye….See you tomorrow.
