Hearing Randy Newman again reminds of when I taught high school in an Appalachian community throughout the 1970s. Our principal was a white nationalist even in those days, and the teachers and students all despised him. Because he only stood about 4 feet-10 inches tall, the students loved to sing or hum Randy Newman's "Short People" any time the guy ventured out into the hallway between classes.
