So glad to see Larkin Poe showing up more. I’ve been following them for a few years. They can do anything. Pick a favorite song and they can do a superb cover all their own.
It was good to hear the excellent performance of Miss Ohio. My wife) noticed that the bass player accompanying Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings was Paul Kowert , who is also in The Punch Brothers (a great group, with Chris Thile and other very good musicians).
The Larkin Poe cover was also quite good.
The Atomic Bowl..., appropriately grim. Adding to the the deep moral scarring of the United States by the two horrendous bombings of Japanese civilians (after the internment of Japanese Americans), exposing soldiers to the intense radiation was criminal. I recall reading that, when soldiers showed up at one the US atomic test sites, as ordered, there were already scientists present in full radiation gear, who asked them why they were unprotected. How did the military command structure not already know about the extreme risks to the soldiers? But, then... Agent Orange and the denials of claims of injury. Which reminds me of toxic burn pits, MK-Ultra, and so on.
This particular Colbert Monologue is perhaps his best
At least in the Top Ten
I have been spreading the Word, Greg
Even to my republican friends and relatives and even they are receptive
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are among my favorites
Learned about them from The Coen Brothers movie "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs"
Their song "When a Cowboy Trades his Spurs for Wings" was nominated for a
Academy Award
I listen to them all the time and took my daughter, Kate to their concert in DM Iowa at
The Hoyt Sherman Place
Gracias, Greg
