Ridiculous list. First, they need to say what criteria they used. Next, help me with this. More Britney Spears than Van Morrison?? Two by Outkast in the Top 40 but only one by Nobel Prize winner Bob Dylan? And only two by The Beatles in the Top 40? Tied with Outkast? Hotel California didn't make the Top 300? And, "Into The Mystic" #462 far behind Fiona Apple "Paper Bag" at #382? Rolling Stone lost the plot long ago. One set of criteria for a TOP list might be how often songs have been covered. Like Yesterday at more than 1000 covers, just for starters. But, I guess that popularity and songwriting skills aren't really what's being listed here.
Right on, right on, right on, right on...
What bothers me is this list is probably not best song but best record.
A great song is the art of songwriting - words and melody.
A great record is the vocal performance, arrangement, instrumentation and audio production.
They are most often two different commodities. Even the Grammy's recognize Record of the Year.
"Like A Rollin Stone": #1 Then (2004), #1 Now (should have been), #1 Forever!

that "best of" list is incomprehensible. thanks for pointing out some of the many lapses.
