This was a great read! I can say that my engagement with classical music was aided immeasurably by the BMG Classical club, which allowed me to sample many composers and then go DEEP on the ones that truly captivated me: Beethoven, sure, and Mahler, Shostakovich, and Britten to name a "big three." Nowadays I mainly listen to living composers when it comes to "classical" music, but those old masters are forever embedded in my soul.
