I've always considered Hank to be the real missing link just before Elvis synthesized C&W with R&B; Williams had rock attitude, and that suit in the clip was the living end (and that was little June Carter?!).
Loved the other clips, too. No wonder the Beatles felt their only real competition was the Beach Boys.
P. S. Thought you'd like to know that my pal RT appreciated that you used the clip of Sandy Denny, which I forwarded to him. "Bless her," he said.
Thanks. I am, of course, a huge fan of RT and seen him live about ten times. Linda is now a good Facebook friend. I had an RT clip on my site a few days ago (it was most popular of the day) and 3 Sandys recently (also popular) with many more to come....
Yes, I told him his clip had been the most popular of the day when it was posted, and it was just like him to ignore that and focus on Sandy.
He is an absolute treasure. I worked with him over 30 years ago, and he has always been so kind to me. I am in awe of him, but he's so down-to-earth and funny that sometimes I forget all that, and we're just mates. Then I get reminded, and whoa!
Not a fan of current Country music but love Hank Williams, Patsy and the like. Thank you for the video.Made me smile. Each day I enjoy your newsletter with my morning coffee. Thank you for the humor and reminders of musician I forgot about. Hey- this nana is in her 70's so I forget-alright!!!
The Surf's Up demo - which was great - brings me back to a favorite musical theme: was 1971 the GOAT, the pinnacle year of pop/rock? There's the easy list of 15-20 (at least) huge aesthetically and commercially successful records that came out that year but the fun is in listing the dozens of very good to great recordings that also came out that year, the Surf's Up album among them.
good point, and the year I started at Crawdaddy, as I've noted. The 70s get a bum rap. Most of the greats were still making great albums in '71 (Neil, Van, Joni and etc.)--at least the ones still living--plus all of the new acts. Reggae arriving soon and disco, thank god, still down the road a safe margin...
