Just found your website while looking up Victor Jara. Thank you for helping keep his memory and his music alive! Note, however, that the Pinochet coup took place in 1973, not 1971, on September 11 -- a date that decades later was branded in our memories for another reason. I still have Jara's 1971 album EL DERECHO DE VIVIR IN PAZ but it's on vinyl and doesn't get played much. I was a college student and political activist at the time. Those were turbulent, amazing years.

It should be taught. Among the tragedies of our policies built by a soulless intellectual (I count McNamara here too) we are obliged by facts to shudder at the name Kissinger. Their saint was Machiavelli. The horror show that was Allende’s overthrow and the consequent massacre and Jara’s death has been long forgotten by most people.
